McCarthy Tétrault’s industry-leading Inclusion Now program

Inclusion Now is McCarthy Tétrault’s award-winning, action-oriented program aimed at attracting, retaining and advancing women, Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour, members of the LGBTQ2S community, and people with disabilities.

Recognized as the Diversity Initiative of the Year at the 2020 Canadian Law Awards, Inclusion Now is a multi-year program that informs every aspect of who we are as a Firm. Through Inclusion Now, we are eliminating structural barriers, ensuring equality of opportunity, providing cultural competency education, increasing diverse representation, and building a deeply inclusive culture where all our people feel a sense of belonging.

McCarthy Tétrault is the first, and only, Canadian law firm to have a stand-alone office dedicated to diversity, inclusion and corporate social responsibility, and to have appointed a full-time Chief Inclusion Officer who is a member of our Leadership team and has a Firm-wide mandate. The Inclusion Now Office has three dedicated and two part-time resources, including a Senior Legal Advisor on Indigenous Initiatives, a role that is another first in the Canadian legal profession. McCarthy Tétrault is the only law firm in Canada making this level of investment into diversity and inclusion.

Our Inclusion Now strategy has four pillars: Leadership, Talent, Culture, and Community.

Leadership

Inclusion Now is one of the Firm’s key priorities and we promote our goals through authentic leadership. Our Inclusion Now Council is chaired by the Firm’s CEO and comprised of Senior Leaders, who are ultimately accountable for its success.

Additionally, we have launched four Action Groups: Pride, Race, Abilities and Gender Equality. To date, 30% of our people are engaged in the work of Inclusion Now.

Talent

We are committed to creating a workplace that represents the diversity of our profession, which necessitates enhancing the inclusiveness of our policies and practices. As part of Inclusion Now, we have developed a comprehensive performance measurement plan with ambitious and realistic goals to keep us accountable.
