Chris Newton
Chris Newton
Chris is the Managing partner of Maples and Calder in the Maples Group's British Virgin Islands office where he is also co-head of the Corporate and Finance practices. He has a broad corporate and finance practice with particular expertise in restructuring as well as acquisition, asset, project and real estate finance, advising financial institutions, sponsors, investors and borrowers. Chris has substantial experience advising in distressed credit situations including both consensual work outs and contentious enforcements. In addition to his finance practice, Chris advises on debt capital markets transactions and plays an active role in the public equity group, advising companies listing on the North American exchanges as well as bidders and targets in acquisitions. Chris regularly advises a number of key clients around the ongoing requirements of public companies. Chris' clients include high profile Canadian, Chinese, UK and US financial institutions, investment funds and corporates.
Matthew Freeman
Matthew Freeman
Matthew is head of Maples and Calder's Dispute Resolution & Insolvency team in the Maples Group's British Virgin Islands office.  He specialises in civil fraud and asset tracing, enforcement of judgments and arbitral awards, lender enforcement, trust litigation, regulatory, corporate restructuring and insolvency.  Matthew practised in England and Wales for eight years before re-locating to the British Virgin Islands in 2015.  He has considerable case management and advocacy experience at the interlocutory, trial and appellate levels, as well as arbitration and mediation. Matthew has also provided expert legal opinions at litigation and arbitration hearings in England and Wales, The Russian Federation, Israel and in the United States.
Ruairi Bourke
Ruairi Bourke
Ruairi is co-head of Maples and Calder's Corporate, Finance and Funds & Investment Management teams in the Maples Group's British Virgin Islands office. He advises on a wide range of corporate transactions including mergers, acquisitions, stock exchange listings, private equity structures, private placements, corporate restructuring and reorganisation transactions and the formation of joint ventures. On the finance side, Ruairi advises on acquisition, real estate, ship and aircraft finance transactions. He also has significant experience in capital markets transactions, both equity and debt.

Scott Tolliss
Scott is of counsel of Maples and Calder's Dispute Resolution & Insolvency team in the Maples Group's British Virgin Islands office. He practises in all the core areas, including fraud and asset recovery, shareholder disputes, corporate investigations, contractual claims, cross-border insolvency and restructuring, contentious trusts and probate, and enforcement of judgments and arbitral awards. Scott has particular expertise in complex commercial, corporate and financial disputes, many of which are borne out of distressed events.
