Marcelo Reinecken is member of Veirano´s Executive Committee. In addition to his administrative duties, Mr. Reinecken coordinates the Tax practice group in Brasília.

Mr. Reinecken primarily focuses his practice on tax and customs litigation and has successfully represented several of the Firm´s clients before the Brazilian Supreme Court, the Superior Court of Justice and the Administrative Board of Tax Appeals (CARF). Due to his expertise in all phases of litigation, he also leads many cases from their early stages in the courts of first instance and appellate courts up through the higher courts. He advises large Brazilian and international corporations in a variety of sectors, including telecommunications, tobacco, mobile phone manufacturing and mining on litigation strategies for cases before all levels of the judiciary and of the administrative courts.

Clients also retain Mr. Reinecken to provide tax consultancy. As the result of his in-depth knowledge of the legal aspects of the Brazilian tax system and the relevant case law, he advises clients on how to prepare for and react to new tax laws and regulations, preventing or anticipating issues that will potentially lead to tax disputes. He also advises clients on customs matters, such as import proceedings and tax classification of imported goods, and representing them in disputes that arise from these issues.

Mr. Reinecken’s base in the capital of Brazil facilitates his active role assisting clients in negotiations with public authorities – such as debating draft bills of law - and in disputes on government and regulatory issues.

His significant practice representing companies in their corporate tax affairs, combined with his experience in litigation, has led clients to additionally retain Mr. Reinecken to prepare and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts, including consumer-focused contracts in the telecommunications market, equity interest purchase and sale contracts, and aircraft leasing contracts, as well as subsequent drafting of pleadings and representation in the courts on related issues should litigation or appeals be necessary.

Mr. Reinecken’s early professional experience includes working as a foreign associate in the international trade practice at a top-tier UK law firm after completing his master’s degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
