Career

Has advised national and international companies in tax, corporate and administrative aspects for almost 20 years. He has participated in financing transactions, M&A, public and private issuances in industries such as renewable energy, mass consumption, financial sector, automotive and mining.

“Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, Latinlawyer and Leaders League have recognized him as one of the leading tax lawyers in the country. Also, the publication “International Tax Review” nominated Juan as “Latin America Indirect Tax Practice Leader of the Year” in 2022. The publication “Business Today” nominated Juan as one of the 10 most influential tax lawyers in Uruguay in 2023.

Prior to joining BRAGARD, he served as partner in charge of legal at Deloitte Uruguay and was the Legal Leader of Market Growth for Deloitte Spanish Latin America. He was a senior associate in the Corporate and Banking Department at Guyer &Regules and was a foreign associate at Garrigues SLP, at its headquarters in Madrid.

Director of the Uruguayan Institute of Tax Studies (IUET) and representative for Uruguay to the General Council and the Latin American Regional Committee for the International Fiscal Association (IFA). He was recognized by IFA with “special mention” for his study of the concept of beneficial ownership from a Latin American perspective.

Rapporteur representing Uruguay in the regional IFA congresses of Santa Cruz de la Sierra (2013) and Costa Rica (2019), as well as rapporteur in the IFA world congress in Madrid (2016). Lately he was appointed national rapporteur for Uruguay for the IFA World Congress in Lisbon (2025).

He is co-author of collective works, and has written papers published in Uruguay, Argentina, United States, Peru, Spain and United Kingdom on energy, corporate governance, tax and corporate issues. Some of them have been cited by the Tribunal de lo Contencioso Administrativo (TCA) in support of its rulings in cases against the DGI and the BPS.
