Position

Klaus Pateter is an attorney-at law for Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMC), FinTech & Digital Assets, IT Law, Data Protection, Digitalisation & Start-ups.

Klaus Pateter advises and represents his clients in the areas of regulatory law, digital assets, IT law, licensing of technology and software (domestic & international), data protection law and medical technology.

He also specialises in advising tech start-ups in all phases of growth and advises on setting up corporate structures as well as on founding and financing, in particular in the area of venture capital. He heads the Start-up Advisory Group of CMS Austria and coordinates equIP, CMS' renowned legal accelerator for tech start-ups.

Career

Klaus Pateter has extensive experience in the areas of IT & IP law, digital assets, data protection, corporate law, venture capital and insolvency law from his many years of work in a renowned law firm in Graz.

Prior to this, he worked for more than three years as an assistant at the Institute for Civil Procedure Law and Insolvency Law at the Karl Franzens University in Graz, where he taught insolvency law as well as Austrian and international civil procedure law.

In 2018, Klaus Pateter completed a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at the renowned Columbia Law School in New York City and is also admitted to the New York Bar.

His clients include technology companies in the sectors financial industry/fintech, blockchain, crowdfunding, platforms, software developers, data analytics, automotive, healthcare as well as tech start-ups and investors.
