The firm: Established in 1747, Coodes takes pride in being rooted in the  communities of the South West, serving the business and personal interests of its clients via its extensive branch network of eight offices, ranging geographically from Penzance in the west to Holsworthy in the east. Many of the firm’s lawyers have their origins in Devon and Cornwall, and thus bring a particular understanding to every legal problem they face.

Types of work undertaken: 

Corporate and commercial: Coodes’ corporate and commercial services have grown considerably in the past ten years, and will continue to do so as the firm prioritises investment in personnel and technology. It has a very strong private client base providing personal legal advice across the South West, with the commercial client base growing strongly, with a mixture of longstanding clients and a rapidly growing list of new clients.

Rural and agricultural matters: the firm has a particular expertise in rural and agricultural matters, and a very strong farming client base.

Conveyancing: Coodes’ conveyancing team is the largest in the region and handles by far the highest volume of transactions of the competing firms – the team is a leader in its field and the winner of many awards.

Family and divorce: Coodes has an excellent family and divorce team. It covers the full range of family, divorce, domestic abuse and Children Act work.

Commercial Property:  the commercial property team has grown considerably within the past two years; the firm’s experts have considerable experience and a worthy national and regional reputation. The Commercial Property team handles a wide range of standard commercial transactions, but also has very strong expertise around agricultural property, financing options, construction and development, commercial landlord and tenant and business transfers.

Disputes: the disputes team is ranked well within The Legal 500 and handles a wide range of matter types.

Private client: the private client team is exceptional, and acts for a large number of private clients and estates, and in very complex trust issues.

Agency work: the firm does a variety of agency work, mainly in family, litigation and crime.
