Daniel Preiskel
Daniel Preiskel
Current position: senior partner. Specialist area of practice: telecoms and IT. Daniel is a co-founder of PREISKEL & CO LLP and has over 20 years’ experience working in the telecoms sector, advising across the industry and globe. He has been ranked for over 16 years in major independent research guides as one of the world’s leading communications lawyers. He is particularly recognised for commercial and regulatory work in the UK and overseas. Together with his international team of lawyers that he heads up, he provides an outside global-counsel service to clients on a range of legal issues spanning the globe, quite a number of which have no connection with the UK or indeed English law. Daniel recently co-founded the International MVNOx Association and advises MVNOs as well as MNOs from the Far East, Middle East, Europe and Africa, as well as North and South America (sometimes including strategy). He also advises clients on international acquisitions, investments and occasionally on telecoms privatisations. Other types of clients include a major global Korean handset manufacturer, various OTT providers, a major international WIFI provider, mobile data clearing houses, telecoms data centres, minutes’ exchanges and various telecoms resellers. He also advises on cloud issues and software as a service agreements, including a major one recently with BBC Worldwide. Daniel Preiskel is a regular speaker at prestigious international telecoms conferences and was on the Steering Committee of the MEF Privacy in Apps Programme (www.appprivacy.net) that attracted a fair amount of coverage in the press. MEF is the mobile content industry leading forum and Daniel is now on the MEF Global Mobile Money Steering Committee. Daniel plays an important legal role in other leading industry associations: ITSPA (Internet Telephony Service Providers Association), ISPA (Internet Service Providers Association) and the Lexing Network of Emerging Technology Lawyers and FCS (Federation of Communication Services).

Recent work projects include advising on: a Series B fundraising for a Russian-based telecoms data centre provider; a strategic alliance and investment for a financial and data clearing company; regulatory and commercial matters for a mobile network operator; the scope of certain international treaties for a Caribbean Government; commercial matters for a MVNA, and commercial and regulatory issues for a payment processing company. Experience extends across all the continents with a current emphasis on Russia, the Middle East and South America.
Tim Cowen
Tim Cowen
Tim Cowen focuses on EU and UK competition law and EU regulatory law. Tim has handled competition and regulatory matters for over 28 years. He formerly served as general counsel for BT’s international businesses, and as chief counsel competition law and public policy for BT Group. Tim has particular experience providing antitrust counseling to technology firms, including on competition issues related to cloud computing and the European Union’s Digital Agenda. He also advises on abuse of dominance disputes and represents clients in antitrust litigation. He has handled cases before the EU Commission and the domestic regulators and courts in the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand. Tim was awarded the title of ‘Distinguished Visiting Fellow’ at the European Business School in London and is a visiting professor at the City of London Law School and a guest lecturer in law and technology at Imperial College Business School. Tim is a panel member for the UK’s Competition Appeal Tribunal; founder of The Open Computing Alliance; past chairman of the competition panel, Confederation of British Industry; past chairman at the International Association of Commercial and Contract Management; and board member of the International Institute of Communications.
