Career

Michele has been a partner at Dentons since 2016. Prior to that, he spent almost ten years at one of the leading Italian law firms - Gianni & Origoni.

Michele holds a teaching position at the University of Trento, Faculty of Law. He is the founder and co-director of the independent research institute Osservatorio Permanente sull’Applicazione delle Regole di Concorrenza (Competition Law Enforcement Observatory). He is also the founder and co-director of the Trento Summer School on Advanced EU Competition Law & Economics.

Michele is frequently invited as a speaker at conferences and seminars, particularly on private antitrust enforcement. He also he wrote a number of books and articles.

In 2012 he has been appointed as independent consultant by the European Parliament's Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs in relation to the introduction of an EU-wide specific system for collective redress in antitrust.

Position

Michele Carpagnano is a partner in Dentons’ Rome office and Head of the Competition and Antitrust practice in Italy.

Michele provides national and multinational companies with legal advice and judicial assistance in all aspects of Italian, Spanish and EU competition law, consumer law, state aid law, merger control, public procurement and regulatory issues.

He represents national and multinational companies as well as public institutions in administrative proceedings before the Italian Competition Authority and administrative courts.

He also represents clients in competition/consumer laws litigation - both single and class actions claims - before Italian courts.

He advised local, national and EU institutions on legislative/regulatory proposals related to competition and consumer laws.

Michele assists clients in the design and implementation of tailored antitrust and consumer law compliance programs.
