Julie specialises in European patent prosecution for US originating inventions in the electronic engineering sector.

Career

Julie joined Reddie & Grose in 1996 and became a partner in 2005.

Julie’s patent practice covers a wide range of technologies within the electrical and electronic engineering field with a particular focus on signal processing and electronics. She has extensive experience of image and data processing systems, communication systems, radar systems, semiconductor fabrication, and computer implemented inventions at the business method/software interface. Before joining the firm, Julie briefly worked as an engineer at the UK Ministry of Defence.

Julie’s particular expertise lies in assisting her US clients navigate through the European patent process. She routinely prepares proposals to address key European patent practice issues such as added subject-matter, clarity and addressing obviousness issues via the EPO objective problem/solution approach. Other aspects of her practice include drafting UK and EPO patent applications for her clients, advising on written submissions prior to oral proceedings at the EPO and handling EPO opposition and appeal proceedings.
