Position

Anna is a compassionate and thoughtful barrister with a wide range of practice areas in family law. She has vast experience in representing social workers, children, guardians, parents and extended family members and is committed to ensuring her clients’ cases are put in the strongest possible terms.

Her expertise covers care proceedings specialising in chronic neglect and matters involving medical issues including appropriateness of treatment, private and public law cases where issues concerning welfare arise, adoption cases and applications made under the Inherent Jurisdiction when children are missing from care.

Career

Anna’s well-rounded grasp of the issues comes from her former experience as a highly respected solicitor. Anna initially began a career as a nurse before turning to the law. Prior to coming to Coram, Anna worked for local authorities in London and private legal firms undertaking family advocacy work. A compassionate and understanding barrister, Anna prides herself on her using her experience as a solicitor to her clients advantage, this having prepared her in attaining specialist knowledge of the law and procedure while perfecting her client care skills.

Her notable recent cases include:

Representing a 17 year old in a protracted private law dispute at a complex fact finding hearing; Acting for the a local authority concerning a child with severe medical conditions; A private adoption case, successfully acting for a step-parent who wished to adopt his wife’s first two children; Successfully defended a parent against serious allegations concerning offences of a sexual nature against a child; and For interveners in a care proceeding against the local authority who were allowed to seek an independent assessment for which the applicants paid.

Anna is a firm and patient negotiator and an effective and tenacious advocate for clients. In court, Anna has been described as direct, honest, and praised for her thorough cross-examination skills.  She is adept at offering her clients reassuring and realistic advice while managing their expectations.

Anna is a confident speaker, often running training courses and webinars for audiences around London and the Home Counties. Her previous seminars were given to special interest groups, child care groups, Lexis Nexis, and the London Children’s Lawyers Association.

Anna is interested in the growing field of legal issues relating to advances in technology and social media, and is particularly skilled at handling cases relating to issues involving Facebook, Twitter, and online privacy.
