Amanda was born and bred in Birkenhead the eldest daughter of a tradesman and was state-school educated. Amanda loved legal dramas and acting from an early age and is a first generation graduate. She did not take the most direct entry to the Bar but has no regrets – all experience is valuable. She became a solicitor as “this was the safe route” into the legal profession. She joined a small niche commercial firm in Manchester as a trainee in 1989. Upon qualifying she moved to the prestigious firm Pannone & Partners in their commercial litigation department. Through the firm’s Agency department she was exposed to daily doses of advocacy, which she loved. After a couple of years she decided to transfer to the Bar and returned to Liverpool as a pupil barrister in 1995 at Derby Square Chambers. They were a common law set so she cut her teeth on crime, personal injury and some family work. Amanda’s husband’s family business took her to 37 Park Square in Leeds in 2000. Amanda’s family work took over here (which coincided with starting her own family). Then in 2003 she returned to Liverpool to be closer to home, joining Atlantic Chambers where she’s been ever since.
A mother of two teenage boys, Amanda has managed to successfully combine full-time working with a busy practice. She is secretary of the Liverpool & Preston FLBA and heads and leads a thriving practice group in chambers where she is committed to the organic growth of her team. Amanda is passionate about helping clients through the minefield of family law using simple language and a sensible, sensitive approach. She is organised and thorough in her approach to work (and life!). In her spare time Amanda volunteers as a Trainee Guard on the Talyllyn Railway with her youngest son. What she lacks in terms of knowledge of steam trains she makes up for in enthusiasm and conviviality!
