Adam specialises in all areas of Intellectual Property, with particular expertise in the field of patent litigation covering telecoms, computing, pharmaceutical, chemicals and medical devices disputes. Adam’s recent cases include: a patent infringement inquiry for Neo concerning a ceric oxide chemical product and on appeal to the Court of Appeal; representing Apple at trial and on appeal (FRAND litigation brought by Optis); resisting preliminary injunctions on behalf of Mylan and Teva concerning generic pharmaceutical launches; invalidating a formulation patent for Sandoz and a dosing patent for Bayer’s rivaroxaban blood-thinning drug; appearing for R2 in their infringement claim concerning spike protection of switching converters in Intel’s processors; and representing IPCom against Vodafone in the Court of Appeal and at trial (access control in LTE/4G). He has appeared as sole trial counsel for: (i) Tesco in its dispute with the Janger (hangers), and (ii) Technetix against Teleste (cable taps), in addition to being instructed for numerous hearings in the High Court and Court of Appeal against silks and other juniors. After completing his doctorate in Quantum Physics at Oxford University, Adam qualified and practised as a solicitor, before being called to the bar. David has developed a successful practice across all areas of intellectual property law since being called to the bar in 2014.  David’s recent work has concerned technical and (F)RAND licensing issues relating to standards-essential telecoms patents, entitlement to patents relating to subterranean exploration, trade mark issues arising from the parallel importation of medical devices, claims relating to infringement of copyright in sound recordings, infringement of unregistered design right, and jurisdictional disputes. David appears regularly before the High Court, Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, and the UKIPO, and has appeared in the Court of Appeal as junior counsel in a significant recent appeal relating to (F)RAND licensing and as sole counsel in an appeal from a decision of the High Court in a jurisdictional challenge. David’s academic background is in Chemistry. Edward specialises in intellectual property law. He is regularly instructed in high value disputes in the High Court. In 2023 Edward was named ‘Junior IP Barrister of the Year’ by Managing IP. Law360 describes him as an “IP Heavyweight”, and Juve Patent says “his name continuously appears in multiple judgments alongside some of the city’s top KCs”. Edward has experience of cases in a wide array of fields including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, vapes, video coding, catalysis, polymers, cosmetics, cryptocurrency, electronics, fashion, 3G, 4G, 5G, DSL, and fibre optics. Mitchell has a broad practice across all areas of intellectual property law and commercial disputes with a technical or IP aspect. He has appeared, both led and unled, in matters in the High Court, the IPEC and the Court of Appeal, and in proceedings before the UK IPO and EUIPO. He has also appeared in commercial arbitrations under the LCIA and WIPO Rules. His recent work has included patent disputes concerning prosthetic heart valves and delivery systems for transcatheter aortic valve implantation (Edwards Lifesciences Corporation & Anor v Meril GmbH & Anor), small molecules (Neurim Pharmaceuticals (1991) Ltd & Anor v Generics UK Ltd (t/a Mylan) – both at first instance and on appeal), and mechanical ventilation (Tehrani v Hamilton Bonaduz AG & Ors), as well as trade mark disputes (Bentley 1962 Ltd & Anor v Bentley Motors Ltd – both at first instance and on appeal), and a claim of misuse of confidential information in a high frequency (quantitative) trading strategy (confidential LCIA arbitration). Before coming to the Bar, Mitchell completed both a law degree and a science degree (with a major in pharmacology) and qualified as a solicitor in Australia. He worked for four years with Herbert Smith Freehills in both Australia and London.
