DQ‘s employment department has significant experience in all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law, with a particular focus on the e-gaming, governmental and financial services sectors. Recent focus areas for the team include senior level disputes, regulator sanctions and restrictive covenants, as well employment issues stemming from M&A. The team is led by ’diligent, tenacious and tireless’ Leanne McKeown , who is regularly instructed by major e-gaming employers in a variety of disputes and regulatory enforcement matters. Joshua Quinn joined the firm from M&P Legal in 2023 with a focus on contentious employment matters. Jessica McManus handles a broad range employment law issues, including highly sensitive issues such as sexual harassment between colleagues. Mark Emery is another key member of the team.

Work highlights

  • Acting for and on behalf of a large local CSP on enforcing restrictive covenants against three former employees, issuing urgent proceedings for an interim injunction against one former employee and pursuing three former employees in the Isle of Man High Court for sizeable damages due to alleged breaches of their restrictive covenants in setting-up a competing business and allegedly poaching clients in the yachting and aviation industry.
  • Undertook a full employment due diligence review and reporting for the IOM branch of an international CSP as part of a multi-million pound proposed acquisition.

Jessica McManus
Associate. Jessica is able to assist and advise clients in a number of areas, including high-value corporate and commercial litigation, employment issues, personal injury and clinical negligence and debt recovery. Jessica’s commercial litigation practice has seen her act for a number of onshore and offshore clients from large CSPs to small partnerships. Jessica works with clients to find appropriate and effective resolutions including utilising alternative dispute resolution such as mediation. In her employment practice, Jessica advises both employers and employees in contentious and non-contentious matters. Jessica was complimented for her “targeted and concise advocacy” when she successfully obtained an injunction for a Consultant who had been suspended from his position. Jessica also regularly advises on non-contentious issues such as contracts and policies for employers and settlement agreements.

Leanne McKeown
Director/Head of Dispute Resolution/Head of Employment. Leanne specialises in commercial disputes, company, fiduciary obligations and employment related litigation.  Leanne has significant experience advising in high value claims regarding allegations of fraudulent breaches of directors’ duties and complex e-disclosure process management. Injunctions and Norwich Pharmacal applications are a frequent feature of the multi-dimensional matters that Leanne handles. Leanne has particular experience advising on all aspects of employment, equality and industrial relations law. Leanne advises clients in relation to workplace investigations, confidentiality, restrictive covenants, social media issues as well as related privacy issues. She is expert in the employment law issues that arise from mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings and redundancy situations. Leanne represents a number of island based Unions and recently advised a Teachers’ Union on matters concerning industrial action short of strike. Mark Emery
Director. Since qualifying as a Manx Advocate in 2012 Mark has regularly appeared at all levels of the Isle of Man High Court of Justice. Mark practices a wide range of commercial litigation, but has particular experience in commercial disputes, corporate insolvency, banking litigation, applications for injunctive relief, enforcing foreign judgments and advising on contentious issues of employment, data protection and trust law.
