Partner; Efstathios is a partner with a broad-ranging international commercial litigation (including class actions), insurance and arbitration practice. He has particular expertise in a number of areas including: On complex multi-party disputes, shareholder disputes and mass claims which often involving multiple jurisdictions. He works closely with clients and co-counsel in a range of jurisdictions, on collective proceedings and class action claims. On a wide range of insurance cases for policyholder clients, insurers/reinsurers and brokers, including complex cases in relation to policy coverage and interpretation, aggregation, non-disclosure and misrepresentation, and brokers’ liability issues. Efstathios is a significant and leading member of our Arbitration Group, with particular expertise in complex, high value energy sector disputes and he has conducted arbitrations under the rules of all the major arbitral institutions, including ICC, LCIA and SIAC.

Lucy Dyson is a partner and insurance and reinsurance lawyer who specialises in complex casualty (re)insurance coverage and litigation. She routinely advises insurers on domestic and international losses under public, products and pollution liability covers, including primary and excess/umbrella liability, PCA94/86, CGLs and the Bermuda Form. Her practice particularly involves advising on losses in the energy, mining, manufacturing, infrastructure and hospitality sectors. This includes high severity events (explosions, spillages, fires), catastrophic injuries/fatalities, product liability and long tail exposures, including occupational illness and pollution. She has significant experience advising on multi-jurisdictional claims, particularly in Latin America, the Caribbean, the USA and Africa.  Lucy also speaks Spanish. In addition, she advises on policy wordings issues and product recall matters (including consumer goods, food and beverage and pharmaceutical).

Alex is the marine and international trade practice group leader and also heads the marine insurance sub-group. Alex has acted for major London Lloyd’s and company market insurers as well as Continental insurers on a wide range of marine insurance based matters. He regularly advises his clients on complex coverage issues on hull, cargo, war, port risk, shipyard liability, general liability and mortgagee interest policies. He has significant experience of acting primarily for International Insurance markets handling major casualties, collisions, salvage, and wreck removals. He regularly contributes to major publications such as Lloyd’s List on relevant issues and has recently co-presented a paper on marine cyber risk at the IMCC with Rod Johnson. He has particular expertise in relation to NOAs, CTLs and issues arising thereafter having led one of the main cases resulting in the development of the law in this area. He is also a recognised as leading practitioner on mortgagee interest coverage issues. He has advised geo-seismic operators and their insurers on risk management issues and advises the London market on pre-inception risk issues. He is listed as a leading individual in marine insurance in the major legal directories.

Hermès is a leading international disputes lawyer having litigated, arbitrated or mediated in over seventy countries complex matters, including international coverage and underlying commercial litigation, particularly in the Americas, Mediterranean basin, MENA, West Africa and Asia.  He is regularly instructed as defence counsel on infrastructure, product and third party liability accounts for major corporates.  Hermès is also acknowledged as a leading expert on issues of political violence and cyber risks, having been involved on such matters from the development of relevant laws and regulations (from NMA464 onwards), litigating and arbitrating these risks internationally. He has qualified both as a barrister and solicitor of England and Wales. Hermès has led teams handling major litigation relating to financial institutions, liability, construction, engineering and energy. He also advises clients on regulatory and corporate matters. Hermès is fluent in seven languages, including Spanish and Portuguese.  He is a Vice President of the Insurance Institute of London and drafts critical wordings for the international market.  He also works closely with various bodies, including the Ministry of Justice, the Bar Council and the Law Society, in promoting English law and jurisdiction worldwide. Hermès is a main co-author of a leading textbook on Reinsurance Practice and the Law, co-author of the book War Risks and Terrorism, and contributor to textbooks on conflicts of law, property risks and Mass Torts in Europe.  He has also contributed to the Getting the Deal Through: Insurance Litigation 2021, and a further Guide on Frustration of Contracts.  He regularly writes on issues relating to private and public interational law and cross-border litigation, cyber disputes as well as continuing on publications on political violence, including war risks and terrorism. Hermès lectures and publishes widely on significant international conflicts of law matters and on specialist risks and legal and forensic investigations.

Having specialised in property insurance for nearly 20 years, Victoria has extensive experience of the UK Property Market. She advises on the full range of first- and third-party property policies, including Property Owners, Operational PFI , Contractors All Risk and Jewellers Block, dealing with commercial and industrial risks both within the UK and internationally.
