Career

Arnaud Nuyts is Partner in the International Arbitration and Dispute Resolution Practice. An experienced lawyer who has practiced in the United States, England and Belgium, he focuses on multi-jurisdictional litigation and arbitration.

He represents major corporations from civil law jurisdictions before US, English and Commonwealth courts, and US and English companies involved in litigation before the Belgian courts. He handles cross-border disputes and arbitration for the oil and gas, construction and food industries, as well as the film industry and media clients in various jurisdictions including Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, New York, California, Nigeria, Switzerland, Greece, Jordan and Vietnam.

Arnaud has been instructed by English solicitors to appear and argue issues of international jurisdiction and human rights before the High Court and the Court of appeal in London. He also specialises in cross-border judicial assistance, including the taking of evidence in Belgium for use in US and English proceedings. He has been involved in major arbitration proceedings involving clients from civil law and common law jurisdictions.

He is Professor at the University of Brussels (ULB) where he lectures on private international law and international contracts and the international law of electronic commerce and intellectual property. He is the author of several publications and he has published around 50 articles in Belgian and international journals. He has been commissioned by the European Commission to coordinate a study on the domestic rules of international jurisdiction in the 27 Member States of the European Union. He has recently appeared as an expert before the European Parliament on the reform of the Judgment Regulation (Brussels I).

Arnaud holds a law degree and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Brussels (ULB) as well as a master of law (LL.M.) from the University of Cambridge. He has also studied at the Universities of Columbia, New York and at Harvard.
