Partner Ismo Hentula is our expert in corporate and contract law with over 25 years of experience as an attorney. He has broad experience in assisting both domestic and international clients in regulatory and contentious corporate and contract law matters. Ismo counts the largest power production and energy services companies in Finland among his clients and his reputation as an expert in energy matters has led him to advising on some of the largest transactions in the energy sector in the last ten years. In addition, Ismo has advised local and national power production companies on joint ventures relating to the establishment and financing of power production facilities both in Finland and abroad. Counsel Jouko Markkanen heads the firm’s Finance practice. He practices primarily in the areas of banking and finance with a particular focus on bank lending, acquisition financing, real estate financing, project financing and structured financing. In addition, he advises the firm’s domestic and foreign clients on their various financial regulatory issues, including licences and notifications, permissibility and structuring of financial activities and products, drafting of client and marketing documentation and compliance related assignments. Jouko has also worked with general corporate and commercial law advising clients on those aspects of their day-to-day business. In addition to obtaining his law degree from University of Lapland, Jouko has pursued an MBA at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the USA and a Master of Science degree (Economics and Business Administration) at the University of Oulu.

Associate Lauri Koskenniemi advises our clients on M&A projects along with issues relating to Corporate Law and Commercial contracts. Lauri joined the Procopé & Hornborg team in October 2022. Before starting his career at Procopé, Lauri acted as the Deputy Managing Director of a company organizing prep courses for the entrance exams for the Law Schools of Finnish Universities. Lauri also has a background in academic research. In addition, Lauri has worked as a professional composer – and musician – for varying media productions.

Partner Lotta Uusitalo is the head of our Competition & Procurement practice. Lotta routinely advises clients in all aspects of competition law: merger control, cartel investigations, behavioral antitrust matters, abuse of dominance, vertical restrictions and damages actions. Lotta has significant experience in advising clients in co-operation with competitors and exchange of information, particularly for trade associations and on the energy & infra sector. Lotta gives advise also in state aid and public procurement matters. In addition, Lotta has significant general commercial experience particularly from automotive sector. She is also the head of our Corporate Responsibility & Sutainable Law practice and the team leader of our internal sustainability and green transition team. Lotta delivers timely, practical and commercial legal advice and has the understanding of the client’s business as a priority. Lotta is interested in legal design and has developed legal tech for compliance purposes.

Associate Olivia Salonen advises our clients in the areas of dispute resolution and general contract and corporate law. Olivia joined Procopé & Hornborg as a Senior Trainee in 2023 and was appointed as an Associate upon her graduation in 2024. Before joining the firm, Olivia has gained experience from an international listed company and from another Finnish business law firm. Furthermore, Olivia has actively participated in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot as a team member, a coach, and an arbitrator.

Over his long career, Petri has accumulated deep expertise in many industries such as energy, information technology and industrial manufacturing, engineering and research and development.

Pia Tanskanen is the Managing Partner of Procopé & Hornborg. She is also an attorney and co-head of firm’s M&A practice. Pia specializes in mergers & acquisitions, private equity as well as corporate and contract law. She has extensive experience in multi-jurisdictional transactions and divestments involving industrial clients. Due to her extensive general counsel background Pia has in-depth knowledge in steel, energy and consumer goods business, just to name a few. Pia is business-minded and solution-oriented, and she drives M&A and other projects efficiently, comprehensively and successfully.

Saga joined Procopé & Hornborg in January 2023. Before joining the firm, Saga gained experience from two law firms and an in-house legal department during her studies. In addition to obtaining her law degree from the University of Helsinki, Saga has completed a Master of Science degree in Economics and Business Administration at Aalto University and studied at Melbourne Business School.

He assists our clients in solving commercial disputes as well as in litigation, mediation, arbitration and administrative proceedings. Sami assists also in matters related to shipping and logistics. Sami joined Procopé & Hornborg in 2023. Before joining the firm and prior to his graduation, Sami worked as an Associate Trainee in other major law firms in Finland focusing on dispute resolution and M&A.

Associate Sonja Heinonen-Tilli specializes in data protection and corporate advisory. She advises clients on a variety of data protection matters and corporate & contract law issues. In addition, she assists both domestic and international clients in various business fields in M&A, with an emphasis on data protection compliance issues and corporate & contract law. Sonja joined Procopé & Hornborg as an Associate upon her graduation in 2021 after working at the firm as a Senior Trainee for several years. Sonja has gained experience from working in law firms and as a Secondee Data Protection Officer in a significant Finnish electricity company.

Partner Ulla von Weissenberg is the head of Procopé & Hornborg’s Shipping & Logistics practice area, using her extensive knowledge of maritime and transport law to advise customers on a wide range of legal issues. Ulla advises clients on all aspects of international maritime, transport and aviation law as well as on a wide range of issues relating to international trade – including extensive trade compliance and sanctions advice. She also has broad experience in extensive logistics contracts as well as handling various demanding insurance matters, connected to maritime and transport issues as well as “non-marine” matters alike. In addition, Ulla has also strong expertise within the field of shipbuilding and ship purchases, and related disputes. Ulla is known for her litigation skills, and she is regularly involved in complex cross-border disputes both in various arbitration proceedings as well as before local courts that require both extensive legal knowledge and exceptional negotiation skills. She is praised for being easily approachable yet extremely professional at the same time.
