Since the opening of the Mexico office in July 2014, Garrigues has positioned itself as one of the leading firms in Mexico, having advised on some of the highest level projects and matters, and acting as legal counsel to top-tier international and domestic clients who are industry leaders in Latin America. Garrigues’ team in Mexico now comprises 25 fee-earners, out of which there are seven partners, all highly respected in the local legal market and with extensive expertise in their respective specialized areas.

The firm has more than 140 fee-earners in the Latin America region, distributed among its five offices: Mexico City, Bogota, Lima, Santiago de Chile and Sao Paulo. Garrigues has the largest network of own offices in the Latin America region among the major European law firms. Gerardo Lemus – corporate M&A partner ([email protected]): Gerardo is currently a partner in the corporate M&A department. He specializes in M&A, international financing transactions and real estate law. He also has experience in economic competition matters. In recent years, Gerardo has developed niche expertise in telecoms towers, from financing to marketing and operation. Before joining Garrigues, Gerardo was a corporate M&A partner at Kuri Brena Sanchez Ugarte y Aznar, S.C., in Mexico.

David Jiminez – energy and infrastructure partner ([email protected]): David has represented several project developers, sponsors, lenders and private equity funds in energy and infrastructure project development and financing, as well as in acquisitions and dispositions of projects. He has broad experience in the structure and development of projects in the electricity industry as well as in the downstream and midstream industries. David was a partner at Chadbourne & Parke, S.C. in the energy and infrastructure practice area before joining Garrigues Mexico.

Mario Juarez – banking and finance partner ([email protected]): Mario has experience in international banking and financing transactions, including secured and unsecured loans, project finance and infrastructure projects, M&A and equity investments. Before joining Garrigues he was a partner at Ritch, Mueller, Heather y Nicolau, S.C., and between 2006 and 2009 was in-house counsel in the International Finance Corporation (World Bank).

Santiago Chacon – tax partner ([email protected]): Santiago’s expertise covers advising foreign investors on how to set up a business in Mexico, mergers and acquisitions of business in Mexico with sell/buy side due diligence and structuring. He has broad experience providing advice to companies on tax compliance and planning in Mexico, structuring of infrastructure projects, with special expertise in energy generation projects, financial structuring and complex corporate restructurings. He also has ample experience in dispute prevention and resolution before the Mexican tax authorities, mainly for foreign international companies investing in Mexico and Mexican companies expanding abroad, from a variety of sectors: energy, oil and gas, consumer products, retail, transportation and mining, among others.

Gabriela Perez – banking and finance, corporate and M&A partner ([email protected]): Gabriela graduated as a lawyer from Escuela Libre de Derecho (Mexico City 2003) and holds a Masters in Law from Duke University School of Law (North Carolina, 2012). She has over 11 years’ experience in advising national and foreign clients on a range of matters both in Mexico and abroad, specializing in financing transactions and in mergers and acquisitions of Mexican companies or foreign companies with subsidaries in Mexico. Before joining Garrigues Mexico, she worked at Ritch, Mueller, Heather y Nicolau, S.C. (Mexico City) for several years and was an international associate at the New York office of international firm Cleary Gottleib Steen & Hamilton LLP between 2012 and 2013.
