Alejandro Trujillo
Alejandro is a specialized real estate lawyer with 20 years of experience in the industry. For 10 years he was General Counsel of GE Capital Real Estate Mexico, where he led the legal operation of GE's $5 billion dollar commercial real estate business and portfolio in Mexico. He advises clients on joint ventures, creation of special purpose vehicles (including trusts), acquisition, development, management, leasing and disposition of assets, as well as all types of real estate financing.
Alejandro is highly experienced in financing real estate portfolios in Mexico of all asset classes (industrial, retail, office, hotel, residential and mixed-use projects), representing lenders and borrowers in structured, senior, mezzanine, club deals, syndications, recourse and non-recourse, cross-collateralized, security trust, mortgage and pledge loans.
An important part of his real estate practice also consists of supporting clients in their due diligence, construction, condominium setup and management of their projects (including hotel operating agreements, supervision and management of developing and stabilized projects), as well as in the negotiation and execution of their leases (speculative, multi-tenant, built-to-suit, sale-and-leaseback) for industrial buildings, multifamily, retail and office premises.
Some relevant transactions that Alejandro has structured, negotiated and closed includes the acquisition of the Finsa and Intermex industrial portfolios by GE Capital Real Estate with a value of US$460MM and US$400MM, respectively; the joint venture between GE and Vesta to develop the Industrial Aerospace Park of Bombardier in Queretaro; the reestructure and assumption of a real estate loan granted by GE to Fibra Uno in an amount of US$800MM as a result of the Gicsa’s portofolio acquisition; the sale to Fibra Macquarie of GE’s US$830MM industrial portfolio, including the seller financing from GE to Macquarie in an amount of US$735MM; the acquisition by GE of Eurohypo’s US$100 milions real estate loan portafolio in Mexico; and the selling of GE US$3.7 bilions real estate loan portfolio in Mexico to Blackstone, including the US$3B seller financing. In addition, he has participated in the acquisition of shopping centers for Planigrupo and MRP, as well as the selling of 15 retail assets from the joint venture between GE and Kimco to Macquarie, Walton Street Capital and Frisa. Also, he has structured joint ventures for Prudential (PGIM) in connection with the acquisition and development of retail centers and for the construction and estabilization of industrial facilities between GE and Dynatech. He has adviced Finsa, Advance Real Estate Group (PSP Canada Pension Fund), MRP and Planigrupo in the acquisition and disposition of industrial assets and retail centers in Mexico and Santander Global Facilities in the sale-and-leaseback in the modality of built-to-suit of an office building in Queretaro. Recently, he has represented Brookfield, Credit Suisse, HSBC, Santander, Nexxus Capital and Sabadell in the granting of a number of residential and commercial real estate loans in Mexico and has acted as outside counsel in syndications with Banco del Bajio, Bancomext, Banorte, Citibank, Monex and Scotiabank.
Alejandro has been recognized as a real estate attorney and ranked by Chambers & Partners and Legal500. In 2016, Alejandro participated in the elaboration and publication of the chapter for Mexico of the book "The Real Estate M&A and Private Equity Review" and is a member of the Mexican Bar Association and the Urban Land Institute.
