Position
Azan was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 2012 and was appointed as a Judicial Assistant to the Court of Final Appeal in the same year. Upon returning to practice in 2013, he was awarded the Middle Temple Advocacy Scholarship.
Azan practices as a barrister in a broad spectrum of civil litigation, with particular focus on public law and family litigation, especially in cases involving child custody, ancillary relief, inheritance and probate, adoption, judicial review, election petitions, discrimination, wardship, and international child abduction. He is ranked by Doyle’s in its list of Leading Family & Divorce Law Barristers.
Azan is available to conduct mediation, private FDRs and Private Adjudication under PDSL9.
Azan has an advisory and investigations practice. He acts as an independent external misconduct investigator for corporate entities. He has also drafted several Bills for debate before the Legislative Council.
He currently sits as a chairman on the Appeal Tribunal Panel (Buildings).
Azan is author and editor of several leading legal texts and is regularly asked to lecture in law, history and medical ethics. He is currently appointed as a Lecturer at the University of Hong Kong. He is the General Editor and Author of the Hong Kong Family Court Tables.
Out of court, Azan is committed to child protection, family and children’s rights. He is the current chair of the Hong Kong Committee on Children’s Rights, and acts as honorary legal advisor to Mother's Choice and Hong Kong Marriage Equality.
Azan is a keen sportsman and advises on sports disputes and regulation. He founded the Working Group on Sports Arbitration, as well as the Sports Law Committee of the Hong Kong Bar Association. He gives seminars and talks on sports law and arbitration. He accepts appointments as a sports mediator.
