Majid Bashir heads the firm’s intellectual property practice. As the national consultant for WIPO in Pakistan, he is one of the most widely recognised IP attorneys in the country whose portfolio of clients includes Microsoft, Luxottica, EMI Pakistan, Lafarge Pakistan Cement, Faiz Foundation and Pakistan Ordnance Factory. He is recognised by Legal 500 (2019) for his “vast experience in this field” and his “good knowledge of foreign IP laws” that allows him to provide clients with “effective and practical solutions”.

Majid’s IP practice spans four key areas: (1) patent, copyright, trademark registration and advice; (2) IP litigation; (3) strategic guidance, coordination and execution of IP enforcement/defence cases; (4) royalty collection. He has more than 28 years of experience in advising multinationals, music houses, producers and innovators on issues related to intellectual property and has represented them in PRS tribunals and foreign courts.

He has written extensively on the subject and is invited frequently to deliver lectures on intellectual property law. He has also advised the Government of Pakistan, the US Mission in Pakistan, and the Intellectual Property Organization (Pakistan) on bringing legislative reform for strengthening the protection of IP in Pakistan and is frequently consulted on this matter. Apart from his focus on intellectual property, he also advises the Pakistan Hockey Federation, the Pakistan Tennis Federation, the Pakistan Squash Federation on sports law and has represented them before int’l sports tribunals and commissions.

Prior to joining ABS & Co., Majid worked as a civil judge/judicial magistrate with the Lahore High Court, Lahore from where his other interest in child abduction and family disputes developed. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law and postgraduate diplomas in intellectual property laws with distinction, industrial relations laws and taxation laws from Punjab University, Lahore. He holds a masters degree in IP laws from WIPO, University of Turin. He is also a fellow of the World Intellectual Property Organization, the International Labor Organization, Global Intellectual Property Academy (USA) and similar bodies and international associations.
