Position

Gagan Anand is currently the Managing Partner of Legacy Law Offices. He oversees the operations of the Law Firm at a macro level. On the client servicing front, he is personally focused on executing a variety of assignments for international clientele in the sphere of developmental projects which includes multilateral funding agencies, foreign companies etc. He regularly serves as an Expert in the areas of Regulatory Frameworks, Public Procurement, Public Private Partnerships, Contracts, Business Laws and Dispute Resolution for leading Developmental Banks including the World Bank (IBRD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in India and abroad. Each year, he personally handles a few selected high-stakes arbitration proceedings generally involving contentious claims exceeding INR 100 crores (USD 16 Million). Legacy Law Offices led by him was awarded the “Best in Onshore & Offshore Infrastructure Law-India” by a United Kingdom-based media group. Besides being an established Developmental Law practitioner, he is also well recognized for his advice and mediation skills in the practice area of Family Law.

Career

Gagan Anand is a seasoned corporate lawyer who holds the qualification of Masters in Law (ML) with specialisation in Contracts & Mercantile. He is a dual qualified lawyer, admitted as a Solicitor of England & Wales and as an Advocate in India. He has had the distinction of working for reputed corporate clients including Microsoft Corporation, Hyundai Electronics, Daewoo Motors, Ericsson, Fremantle, Raytheon, Itochu Telecom etc. in the practice areas of foreign investment, joint ventures & collaborations, international commercial arbitration etc., during the early years of his legal career. He had an opportunity to prepare and argue an Execution Petition in 1998 before the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi in respect of the first conciliation settlement which took place in India under the provisions of the Arbitration & Conciliation Act, 1996. He is widely recognized for his mediation skills and has been instrumental in having successfully mediated in respect of cross border business transactions. His rich work experience spans across projects in 24 States of India, besides Bangladesh, Ghana, Kenya, UAE, Malaysia, Mongolia, Singapore, United Kingdom, Zambia, Zanzibar and few European countries. He worked as the Chief Legal Advisor of the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board in India for 10 years and made immense contribution for establishing and implementation of the public private partnerships (PPP) regulatory framework in the State of Punjab. This in turn led to the implementation of large number of PPP projects, many of which were having commercial real estate components and the contractual arrangements for which were administered by a team of lawyers led by Gagan. Gagan is regarded as one of the most seasoned infrastructure law experts in the northern India. He regularly serves as an Expert in the areas of Regulatory Frameworks, Public Private Partnerships, Contracts, Business Laws and Dispute Resolution for leading Developmental Banks including the World Bank (IBRD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He was awarded the National Law Day Award, 2010 by the Hon’ble Vice President of India with the citation - “remarkable achievements and leadership in the practice of corporate laws including immense contribution for the development of Public Private Partnerships”. A large number of private construction companies, technical consultants, financial consultants, transaction advisors and infrastructure related government agencies regularly consult him for the structuring, development & implementation of developmental projects across variety of sectors. As a passionate and dedicated Solicitor, he enjoys the confidence of large number of players in the infrastructure and real estate industry, who depend upon him as their trusted business lawyer for his result oriented legal strategy, exceptional drafting and brief handling skills which yield success in dispute resolution cases including arbitration. He is also a member of the various committees of the International Bar Association including the International Construction Projects Committee, Closely Held & Growing Business Enterprises Committee and Law Firm Management Committee. The American Biographical Institute conferred the prestigious honour, Man of the Year 2012 on him for distinctive accomplishments in the field of Corporate Laws.
