Career

Matthew began his legal career working in mental health law where he primarily assisted those detained under the Mental Health Act.  He advised clients subject to civil and criminal sections, including those subject to conditions of the highest security in Broadmoor Hospital.  He prepared cases for the Mental Health Tribunal, advocated for clients at Hospital Managers Hearings and frequently advised clients on issues of the provision of medication and other treatment without patient consent.

Matthew joined Gordons in September 2018 as a paralegal in our Family & Private Wealth department.  He went on to undertake his training contract with Gordons where he gained experience in our Residential Conveyancing, Commercial Real Estate and Healthcare departments in our Guildford office and our Commercial and Commercial Dispute Resolution departments in our London office.

Matthew qualified as a Solicitor into the Healthcare Regulation department in our Guildford office in March 2022.  His work includes assisting doctors, dentists and pharmacists with regard to their regulation by the GMC, GDC and GPhC and in the event that they are involved in an inquest.  He also deals with the defence of clinical negligence and other claims brought against healthcare professionals and practices.”

Education

Matthew graduated from the University of Kent, Canterbury with a BA (Hons) degree in Politics and Law in 2015.  In 2018 he completed the LPC with MSc in Law, Business and Management at the University of Law, Guildford.
