Claire Fulton

Claire is Partner in our international Cayman and BVI practices. She has significant experience advising on a broad range of banking and finance, and debt restructuring transactions, with an emphasis on special situations financing and cross-border restructuring matters. Claire's practice advises major international financial institutions, credit funds, sponsors and borrowers with a focus on realising value in distressed situations, including security enforcements, special situations, debt restructurings and voluntary liquidations, and she is regularly approached to advise on offshore statutory merger regimes and schemes of arrangement. Claire also has extensive experience acting on cross-border leveraged and acquisition financing, real estate financing, take-private transactions and pre-IPO financing.

Danielle Roman

Danielle is a Partner and Practice Leader of the Mourant Hong Kong Banking and Finance team, having practised in Asia for over 17 years. She advises on a broad spectrum of cross-border transactions, including fund finance, asset finance (in particular aviation and shipping), acquisition and leveraged finance, debt restructurings and general corporate lending. In fund financing, Danielle regularly represents private and commercial banks on subscription credit facilities, hybrids, NAVs and GP/Management facilities. She is on the global board of the Fund Finance Association and chair of the APAC Executive Committee, and is also a board member of Women in Fund Finance. Danielle has significant expertise in helping major financial institutions, lessors and investors on the financing and leasing of commercial aircraft, corporate jets and other related assets across a variety of structures. Danielle also advises on the finance and leasing of ships, yachts and other vessels. She is on the advisory board for The Hague Court of Arbitration for Aviation and on the leadership team and board member for Advancing Women in Aviation Roundtable (AWAR).

James Broad

James is a Partner in the Mourant Hong Kong Corporate and Funds practice. He specialises in investment funds with a focus on private equity and hedge funds. He also has experience advising on private mergers and acquisitions. James's experience includes guiding clients through the initial set-up process, the launch of their fund, and then the ongoing operation and maintenance of their fund. He also advises on the establishment of joint venture structures, as well as the structuring and ongoing operation of partnerships and companies.

Justine Lau

Justine is a Partner and Practice Leader of the firm's Hong Kong Litigation and Restructuring and Insolvency teams. She advises financial institutions, financial advisors and turnaround professionals on all forms of external administrations, restructuring matters and cross-border contentious insolvency issues. Justine also advises on security enforcement and general commercial and banking litigation, and have over 10 years' experience working in Greater China.

Michael Popkin

Michael is a Partner in the Mourant Hong Kong Litigation and Restructuring and Insolvency practice. Michael advises on all aspects of offshore disputes and distressed situations, including applications for urgent injunctive or other relief. He is particularly experienced in disputes relating to investment funds and significant financial transactions and disputes between stakeholders. Michael regularly acts for insolvency practitioners, creditors, directors and directors’ committees, fund managers and administrators, trustees, investors and major shareholders or beneficiaries. Most of the matters that he deals with are multi-jurisdictional in scope and he specialises in efficiently and effectively coordinating with legal and counsel teams across jurisdictions worldwide.

Paul Christopher

Paul is the regional Managing Partner of Mourant Asia and the Managing Partner of the Mourant Hong Kong office. He is also the Practice Leader of the firm's Corporate and Investment Funds team in Asia. Paul regularly advises on corporate matters including mergers and acquisitions (public and private), investment funds, joint ventures and the restructuring of companies and structures. These will often be complex and/or private equity-related transactions. Paul has been ranked as a leading individual by Chambers and Partners since 2008 (initially in the United Kingdom and then Asia) and the Legal 500 since 2015. Since 2020 he has been listed in the A-List Offshore Lawyers category in the Asia Business Law Journal and in the A-List China's Elite Foreign Lawyers category in the China Business Law Journal.

Simon Lawrenson

Simon is a Partner and Global Practice Leader of the Mourant Finance and Corporate team. He has significant experience in banking and finance transactions, with an emphasis on acquisition finance. Simon's practice focuses on advising leading international lenders, sponsors and borrowers on a wide range of cross-border transactions, including event-driven acquisition and leveraged finance, asset finance (with a particular focus on shipping and aircraft finance), real estate financing, pre-IPO financing, trade financing, integrated debt and equity financing, debt restructuring, OTC derivatives and structured products, security enforcement, and project and energy finance. He also advises on mainstream corporate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, equity investments, general corporate advisory and voluntary liquidations.
