Career

Joanna Christoforou is a partner in the competition practice at Hausfeld, and has extensive experience in EU and UK competition law, including competition litigation and complex investigations in the EU and UK.  Joanna has had a leading role in significant competition litigation and investigation matters across a broad range of industries including before the Competition and Markets Authority, Competition Appeal Tribunal, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court; and the European Commission and European courts. She acts for clients in complex, high-value cartel or abuse of dominance court proceedings and investigations, damages actions, competition disputes, dawn raids and director disqualification proceedings. 

Joanna has significant trial experience, and her practice encompasses both follow-on and stand-alone claims.  Amongst others, she currently represents the class representative in Case 1382/7/7/21: Consumers’ Association (Which?) v Qualcomm Incorporated, and the class representative in Case No. 1408/7/7/21: Elizabeth Helen Coll v Alphabet Inc. and Others.  

Prior to joining Hausfeld, she represented a leading national retailer in the leading case against Visa in the interchange fee litigation in the English courts, with successful appeals to the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court and represented a leading pharmaceutical company in its challenge to the CMA’s search warrants in a first-of-its-kind litigation. She also recently represented clients in the successful appeals in each of Hydrocortisone and Prochlorperazine relative to allegations of market exclusion and pay-for-delay, the appeal in Liothyronine (one of the leading cases in unfair and excessive pricing) and appeals against director disqualification proceedings.
