DEI is an intrinsic part of the Hausfeld DNA and has been since its launch 15 years ago. We commit to DEI through our own actions and the work we do.
Our social justice work, including the work we do pro bono, promotes inclusion by offering equal opportunity to the lesser heard, as does fighting claims which hold governments, institutions and corporates to account. We cooperate closely with charities and NGOs, which in many cases offers a voice to those without deep pockets and who may need it most. Eight Hausfeld lawyers were recognised in the new Pro Bono Recognition List in 2024 supported by The Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, The Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill. Improving access to justice for individuals and businesses is at the core of what Hausfeld does and aligns with our commitment to giving back to the communities in which we live.
We are a gender diverse firm: 62% of our London team and 55% of our lawyers are female. We have an excellent track record of promoting women with 50% of the 2024 London promotions being female. We are an Equal Opportunity employer and invest in home grown talent: all partner promotions in the last 5 years started as associates at the firm. Our London Managing Partner, Nicola Boyle, is female.
A small selection of our London DEI initiatives:
- We work with RARE’s pioneering Contextual Recruitment System which provides real time contextual information so we can identify exceptional candidates we might otherwise miss.
- We organised talks on a wide range of topics: racial justice, how Black British History has been portrayed
- Adoption of structured interviewing and training to mitigate unconscious bias.
- Our mentoring programme was relaunched.
- During Summer, we hired interns from the King's College Springboard Scheme which includes students from a whole range of backgrounds that are underrepresented.
- We offered work experience to Year 12 students at UCL Academy to offer insight into what it is like working in a law firm and the different roles they could follow in the legal industry.
- As part of an extensive review, we introduced a raft of initiatives redefining workplace norms to enhance our employees’ well-being and work-life balance in a supportive environment. They are agile working hours, flexible working patterns, competitive paternity leave, life events policy, well-being days, volunteering days, flexible bank holiday and summer policy.
- The firm has joined the Law Firm Anti-Racism Alliance (LFAA), a group changing the way institutions deal with racial inequality.
- In collaboration with the Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership, we work with students of underprivileged backgrounds to increase social mobility in the profession.
- Each year the London team raises funds towards the London Legal Support Trust and an annual Christmas Charity.
