Some of the representative matters undertaken by Mr. Cuesta are: (i) Represented Mexican developer on joint venture with Hyatt Hotel (ii) Advises Daimler International (Mercedes Benz) on merger with Nissan (iii) Represented Kapsch Trafficcom in the public bidding process with CAPUFE (iv) Corporate compliance for Nike de Mexico (v) Advice and representation of Flextronics on strategic projects, and counselling on the company’s compliance and acquisitions (vi) Counseled Subway in the relationship with franchisees (vii) Secure loans for Bank of America and a number of other US lenders using Mexican based assets (viii) Design and implementation of loan structures to Mexican subsidiaries for Wells Fargo (ix) Legal advise to Canon on financial and leasing services. (x) Restructure Seamar Diver's Mexican operation (xi) Represent Fidelity on title insurance projects. (xii) Advise ZF Sachs on Mexican corporate structure.

Career

Hugo Cuesta joined Cuesta Campos in 1986. He has focused his practice in international business transactions. His extensive corporate background comprises foreign investment, M&A, banking and finance, and corporate law.

Since 1990, he has developed substantial expertise representing leading foreign entities doing business in Mexico as well as Mexican entities doing business abroad. Mr. Cuesta has acted as Lead Mexican Counsel in several international projects and business transactions, advising multinationals on their legal, corporate and finance structure in Mexico. Has also acted as Lead Mexican Counsel for the Mexican operations of top maquiladoras (assembly plants) since their start up.

He is former vice chair and board member of Meritas Law Firms Worldwide, and former vice chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in Mexico. He is also member of the New York State Bar Association as part of the Latin-American counsel of the international section, and of the anti-corruption Committee of the IBA. Member of the ICC.

He also serves as member of the board of various multinationals (including Nike Mexico), the Guadalajara Chamber of Commerce, and various foundations and non-profit organizations. He teaches the class of Ethical standards in the legal profession at the prestigious Universidad Panamericana, Campus Guadalajara.

In 1998 Mr. Cuesta worked as a foreign attorney in the London office of Nabarro & Nathanson a major commercial law firm in London.
