Career

Juan Carlos, current managing partner of Santamarina y Steta, is also leader of the labor and employment practice group. He has over 36 years of professional experience handling both individual and collective labor matters.

Due to his important role in the resolution of union disputes in the mining and automotive industries in Mexico, he is recognized as a leading national and international lawyer in his area of expertise.

He has participated in a number of large national impacting union disputes representing the company. In fact, he has handled two of the five Rapid Response Mechanism derived from the USMCA, making him the go to labor lawyer for union related matters.

He also provides advice to multinational companies in the retail, hotel, and oil industries, among others, confronting the effects of labor legislation in terms of subcontracting matters and labor regulatory aspects in general. He has played a key role in the planning and development of the union strategy for the Mexican emerging private oil industry.

Recently, he has advised various relevant companies in the country in redefining their union strategy considering the challenges of the 2019 labor reform and the USMCA.

His work has been recognized by Chambers and Partners in Band 1.
