Yahaira De la Rosa-Algarín focuses her practice in the areas of Litigation and Regulatory. She represents clients in general civil and commercial litigation before the Puerto Rico and federal district courts and regulatory matters before the Puerto Rico Energy Bureau.
Yahaira has handled a wide variety of matters, including local appellate practice, constitutional, consumer class actions, construction, professional responsibility, medical malpractice, aviation, bids & procurement, administrative, energy regulatory, banking, securities litigation, and arbitration. She has experience representing Fortune 500 companies, broker-dealers, and some of the largest businesses in Puerto Rico.
Prior to joining DLA Piper, Yahaira worked in the Litigation Practice Group of a prominent Puerto Rico firm, where she represented two of the largest U.S. and Puerto Rico brokerage firms in arbitration cases following the Puerto Rico bond market turmoil. She also represented one of the principal U.S. consumer lending institutions before the Puerto Rico Department of Consumer Affairs and state courts.
Yahaira has extensive local appellate experience, having represented clients successfully before the Puerto Rico Supreme Court in constitutional, property, and professional responsibility cases.
Previously, Yahaira clerked for the Puerto Rico Supreme Court. During law school in Puerto Rico, she served as a research assistant to Professor Luis Aníbal Avilés-Pagán.
Yahaira obtained law degrees from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom, the University of Puerto Rico Law School, and the Universitat de Barcelona, making her the only attorney in Puerto Rico with law degrees from the United Kingdom, Spain, and Puerto Rico.
