Drummond Miller is a leading firm of solicitors with offices in five locations throughout central Scotland. It comprises 19 partners and 82 fee-earners.

The firm’s head office is in Edinburgh; branch offices are located in Bathgate, Dalkeith, Glasgow and Musselburgh. This structure benefits clients who can access advice from a local solicitor while at the same time receiving high-quality specialist representation from across the firm.

Drummond Miller mainly acts for individual clients and focuses on providing these clients and their families with specialist advice in niche areas, such as clinical negligence and immigration law, in addition to offering a full legal service in the core areas of family law, private client and property law.

Types of work undertaken: The firm’s commitment to providing legal excellence in niche areas is underlined by the number of solicitors who hold accredited specialisations from the Law Society of Scotland. The firm has accredited Law Society specialists in the areas of clinical negligence, family law, immigration and personal injury.

Clinical negligence: the firm’s clinical negligence team is led by partners Liesa Spiller and Darren Deery. Both are highly rated within the industry and by UK Chambers and The Legal 500.

Liesa and Darren are both accredited in clinical negligence law by the Law Society of Scotland,  and deal exclusively with claims for pursuers.

The team specialises in all types of clinical negligence claims including: birth damage; missed diagnoses; surgical; cancer; orthopaedic; GP failures; and nursing failures.

Family law: the family team is headed by Lynne Stratford who, as well as being recognised by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in this field, is also a trained collaborative lawyer and family law mediator.

The family team is spread across offices, allowing the firm to provide specialist advice at a local level. It has a large Court of Session practice in the Edinburgh office headed by partner Linsey Ferguson who undertakes a wide range of instructions on behalf of individual clients and other solicitors from throughout Scotland, including cases involving international child abduction.

The team is able to offer advice covering the whole spectrum of family law and strives to offer a personal and compassionate service to clients at some of the most difficult times of their lives.

General litigation: the general litigation team is led by partners Miranda Becher and Laura McDonagh.  Miranda is an accredited specialist in personal injury litigation, whilst Laura is widely recognized as an expert in the field of Judicial Review.

The team undertakes a wide variety of cases in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session including personal injury, judicial review, commercial actions and statutory appeals.  The team also handles Edinburgh agency work for a large number of solicitor firms from outwith Edinburgh, for which it is highly regarded.

Immigration law: the firm’s immigration team is unrivalled in Scotland in terms of both its size and the length of experience of its senior team members. David Brown, the department founder, has practised for over 25 years and is a Band 1 ranked lawyer by Chambers. David sits on the Accreditation Panel of the Law Society and is on the UNHCR Panel of solicitors.

Private client: the private client team is led by Charles Ogilvie. He has developed a particular expertise in guardianships, intervention orders and other matters relating to adults with incapacity.

The firm aims to achieve solutions for clients’ particular circumstances and communicate in easily understood terms.

Examples of the services it provides include: wills; trusts; inheritance tax planning; executries; powers of attorney; guardianship; finance and care for elderly people; administration of trusts and charities.
