Founded in 2006, Suma Legal is a mid-size Medellín firm with an emphasis on corporate and M&A, dispute resolution, insurance, and labour and employment work. Among the names to note, founding partner Mauricio Ortega Jaramillo is a multidisciplinary practitioner with a particular focus on corporate and commercial matters —including M&A— national and international investment projects, and tax law; he also has experience in judicial and arbitral proceedings. Carmela Rodriguez Jaramillo has a 17-year trajectory in contractual, corporate, M&A and tax matters; she co-heads the firm’s offerings in those areas alongside Ortega. Rounding out the partner group is Mateo Peláez García, who leads the dispute resolution, insurance and real estate teams. The practice also draws on a capable pool of associates, including Marcela Flórez Sierra (contractual, corporate and personal data protection law); José Daniel Porras (administrative, environmental and commercial law); and Alejandro Gómez Zapata (corporate and commercial law).
