Jean-Pierre Fierens is a partner in our dispute resolution practice. He specialises in corporate and contract law and is one of Belgium’s most renowned litigators, especially in arbitration. Jean-Pierre acts on a range of domestic and international cases, covering both litigious and arbitral proceedings for clients in sectors including banking, food, and insurance. He also represents state entities. He is well-known for his roles in complex and highly mediatised disputes involving liability of directors. Over the last ten years, Jean-Pierre has been appointed numerous times as sole arbitrator, co-arbitrator, or chairman of an arbitral tribunal. He also acts as counsel in arbitration matters, and he is an accredited mediator (CEDR, London).

At Quinz, Stijn focuses primarily on dispute resolution. His practice circles around corporate litigation (shareholder disputes, director liability, post-acquisition claims, ESG litigation etc.) as well as insolvency matters, where he regularly acts both for creditors as well as for debtors in restructuring. Stijn is appreciated by clients and colleagues for his profound expertise in corporate law and his pragmatic problem-solving approach. Prior to joining Quinz, Stijn worked at the Jan Ronse Institute for company and financial law of KU Leuven, first as a full time assistant, and later on as a fellow of the Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO). Upon his Ph.D. defense in April 2016 he remains associated with the Jan Ronse Institute on a voluntary basis. Stijn is a part time professor at the Antwerp University Faculty of Law, where he teaches insolvency law. Stijn also sits on the editorial board of the Tijdschrift voor Rechtspersoon en Vennootschapsrecht - Revue Pratique des Sociétés (TRV-RPS) and is a member of the Belgian Centre for Corporate Law (BCV-CDS). He frequently speaks at conferences or seminars, and publishes on various aspects of company and insolvency law.

Céline Masschelein

Partner Céline Masschelein joined Janson as a partner in March 2016, after having been Counsel in the Litigation & Arbitration department of Allen & Overy. Céline has a special focus on white collar crime (such as imputations of fraud, forgery, corruption, money laundering, bankruptcy offences) on the one hand and all forms of corporate litigation on the other hand (such as post-acquisition disputes and all possible disputes between (and liabilities of) shareholders, board directors, auditors and other corporate actors). Céline has more than 20 years of experience in dealing with complex national and international disputes in both business and financial criminal law, with specific expertise in the interaction between the two areas. She has already assisted several international and Belgian companies involved in both civil and criminal proceedings. Céline also works within the framework of arbitration and mediation procedures (ADR) and also advises clients preventively. Her broad procedural experience provides added value in drawing up contracts, avoiding disputes and actively working towards amicable settlements.  References Counsel to a Fortis bank employee (risk manager) involved as an indicted party in the criminal and civil proceedings following the collapse of Fortis Part of the team that represented SAirGroup in Belgian civil and criminal proceedings following the Sabena bankruptcy for almost fifteen years. Robbie Tas

Robbie Tas is holder of several degrees earned at the KU Leuven (1990 Bachelor of Applied sciences; 1993 Master in Business engineering, specialization finance; 1994 Master of Laws; 1994 Complementary studies ‘Fiscal systems’; 2002 PhD in Law). From 1994 to 2001, he served as a research fellow within the team of Professor Koen Geens at the Jan Ronse Institute of the KU Leuven. In 2002, he obtained his PhD with a thesis on the maintenance of capital in public limited liability companies and private limited liability companies. From 1997 to 2003, Robbie was in charge of the legal secretariat of the International Commission of Appeal at NASDAQ Europe. He was member of the board of directors of electricity company Luminus from 2002 to 2005. Since 2004, he is a lecturer in the Master’s Programme of Corporate Law at the KU Leuven, Brussels campus. In 2012, he was guest lecturer in the postgraduate programme ‘Estate planning’ at the VUB. Robbie is a regular contributor to ‘TRV’, the Journal for Legal Entities and Companies. He is also president of ‘VRG-Alumni’, the alumni association of the law faculty of the KU Leuven. He has published extensively on corporate and association law and is a much sought-after speaker on these topics. He is an active member of the Belgian center for company law. The minister of justice called upon his expertise within the context of the company law reform. He is also an independent director and president of the board of directors of the investment fund Aphilion Robbie started his career as a lawyer in 1995 at the Brussels’ law firm De Bandt Van Hecke & Lagae (currently Linklaters). In 2000, he set up his own law firm in Leuven. In 2002, he became partner at the law firm Maxius. In 2006, he participated in the creation of the law firm Curia. He co-founded intui in 2013. Robbie is specialized in commercial and business law, with particular focus on corporate and non-profit law. His clients include independent businessmen and companies, shareholders and directors. He has also a particular interest in issues related to liberal professionals, whether they practice in a partnership or otherwise. He is an experienced and respected litigator, with a particular focus on disputes between shareholders / directors of companies. Although he prefers negotiated solutions to litigation, he does not shy away from tenacious court proceedings if and when required. He also regularly acts as an arbitrator in national and international commercial disputes. Finally, Robbie has extensive experience in advisory and transactional work.
