Andrew is a Partner in the Agriculture & Landed Estates team and advises on wills and tax planning, particularly to landowners, agricultural and farming clients. He has wide experience of the Court of Protection whilst acting as a deputy/receiver and he advises regularly on contentious probate and related issues. Work undertaken recently includes: advising upon the structure of farming businesses and partnerships, the admittance of sons/daughters into partnership and succession, the Partnership Deed and the tax implications of such changes; advising upon the appropriate arrangements to hold family property to include the introduction of property into a farming business and of the use of trusts in order to maximise the agricultural and business property relief available to reduce future inheritance tax; considering the use of trusts and gifts into trusts of property as part of an overall strategy to minimise inheritance and capital gains tax and to provide protection in the case of a divorce; considering the succession rights and implications of Agricultural Holdings Act tenancies (AHA tenancies) and the inheritance tax issues involved to include those faced by family farming partnerships and farming companies; adjusting Inheritance Tax Planning - Agricultural Property Relief and Business Property Relief; advising upon post death will variations (possible within two years of the death of an individual) to reduce the tax payable upon death and in conjunction with a long term succession and tax planning strategy; advising upon claims made by or against the deceased for inadequate provision under a will or intestacy particularly by spouses/cohabitees (‘Inheritance Act Claims) to include the use of mediation, formal and informal dispute resolution; advising upon the administration of estates in the context of solicitors negligence and inheritance tax issues.

Jennifer is a Partner in the Agriculture & Landed Estates team advising clients on a broad range of matters including Wills, inheritance tax planning and capital gains tax, as well as issues affecting clients as they grow older such as care home fees, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection applications. She also has ten years experience administering estates including complex probates with business or agricultural assets.  Jennifer can also assist beneficiaries improve their own inheritance tax position using Deeds of Variation. Jennifer also has considerable experience establishing trusts to assist families with their tax planning and other objectives.  She also regularly assists with the administration and taxation of existing trusts.

Oliver is a Partner specialising in real estate litigation with work in the following areas: urgent injunction to prevent building work affecting medical facilities; commercial property renewals of leases with tight deadlines; recovery of overpaid business (national/non-domestic) rates; recovery of unpaid sums due under a commercial contract with Court action followed by successful mediation; appeal to the Court of Appeal for ruling about property rights, adverse possession and land registration issue concerning valuable car parking space; advice upon insolvency issues concerning property including tenant in administration, minimising liabilities and LPA receivership; advice about negotiations over development of ransom strip, relocation of ransom strip and associated solution; commercial contract dispute with complex technical issues; structured recovery of rent and property within managed portfolio.

Until December 2024, Philip was a Partner in our Corporate & Commercial team and advised on all aspects of corporate law, as well as partnership and commercial matters. He has vast experience in dealing with mergers, acquisitions and disposals in various sectors, joint ventures and shareholders’ agreements, and advising on corporate re-structurings. His work with clients in the agricultural sector led to his strategic move to the firm’s Agriculture & Landed Estates team in January 2025. His expertise in corporate law brings significant value to those involved in farming, food production, land management, and agribusiness. Recent experience includes: Leading on the acquisition by a client of the business and assets of an agricultural machinery supplier, for a consideration of £2.5m.   Leading on the acquisition by a Chinese listed technology company of a majority stake in a precision engineering company based in Cricklade, Wilts, for £4m and a related purchase of a research and development facility in Swindon for £1m.   Advising on the acquisition by management shareholders of the minority stake in a printed fabric making company for a total deal value of £8m.   Leading on the sale of a quarry company to a competitor for a total maximum purchase price of £5.5m.   Advising multi-national companies in respect of UK Company and commercial law requirements.

William is a Partner and is the head of our Corporate and Commercial team.  He has extensive experience of multi-jurisdictional mergers and acquisitions, corporate structuring and fundraising, shareholder agreements, projects, corporate governance and complex commercial contracts. Recent work includes: Leading on numerous substantial mergers and acquisitions in the technology, media, energy, industrial and agricultural sectors. Advising on corporate structuring and shareholder arrangements in respect of private companies and listed entities. Advising venture capital and private equity funds on national and cross-jurisdictional investments. Advising on commercial contracts in connection with a range of sectors, including media, music industry, energy, aerospace and technology. Ongoing corporate advice in respect of landed estates and rural businesses.
