Maria Paloma Deguara
Her principal areas of practice comprise of corporate law, general commercial law, foundations and trusts, competition, intellectual property, education, aviation, gaming and tax law. As a transactional lawyer, Dr Deguara has advised and assisted local and foreign clients in connection with mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, group restructuring, the setting up and operation of licensed gaming companies, the setting up and operation of licensed education institutes and universities, as well as advising and assisting clients on various corporate and commercial matters relating to her areas of practice. She also advises and assists clients on general ongoing compliance work and transactional and operational related issues. Dr Deguara has also been a member of the legal team advising both bidders as well as the Government of Malta in a number of privatisation processes of state owned entities and government concessions, including various concessions for the operation of marinas in Malta and Gozo and the process leading to the concession for the operation of land casinos in Malta and Gozo. She has also advised and assisted clients in connection with the establishment of an international medical school in Gozo and is a member of the legal team advising clients on the setting up and operation of an international university in Malta
