Hazel Phillips
Hazel Phillips
Hazel is a specialist corporate healthcare lawyer whose clients include care organisations, children’s homes and children’s services, pharmacies, GPs, dentists, day nurseries and charities. Hazel’s expertise covers sales, mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracts, business structure, governance and refinancing. Maria Meek
Maria is a partner who specialises in Court of Protection and Compensation Protection Trusts. Maria specialises in managing compensation awards for clients who have a Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection or whose funds are held within a Compensation Protection Trust. Mark is an experienced Partner in RWK Goodman's Personal Injury team. He has a broad practice dealing with complex injuries and fatalities. Mark’s particular interests include representing cyclists and vulnerable road users, injuries caused by animals, fatal accident claims, acting for clients that don’t have capacity to conduct litigation themselves and professional negligence claims. Mark is a keen cyclist and advocate for vulnerable road users generally. He has built up significant experience in this field over the years and is passionate about pursuing claims of this nature and improving road safety generally. Having succeeded with all manner of claims for injuries caused by animals, in negligence and under the Animals Act, Mark is an expert in claims of this nature, commonly involving cattle, horses, dogs or pigs. Mark has established a niche practice representing individuals who suffer serious injuries whilst being cared for by others. These individuals are represented by their litigation friend due to their vulnerability and inability to conduct their own litigation. Richard, a partner at RWK Goodman, has specialised in clinical negligence claims on behalf of claimants since 1997. Although based in our Oxford office, he works with clients across the country. Richard is accredited under the Law Society Clinical Negligence Accreditation Scheme and sits on the Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) Specialist Clinical Negligence Panel. He is also one of the national brain injury charity Headway’s approved personal injury solicitors, and holds Senior Litigator status with the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). Richard has given lectures on clinical negligence law and has been interviewed on local radio as well as TV. Richard’s particular specialisms are: cerebral palsy and birth injury claims, including Erb’s palsy spinal injury claims involving paralysis bariatric (weight loss) surgery claims vascular claims and amputation adult brain injury claims fatal claims cardiology claims

Richard heads up our Family law team which is independently recognised as a Tier 1 practice in the South West in independent legal directory, The Legal 500 UK. Richard trained at RWK Goodman and became a partner in 2000 where he has always specialised in family law. He has a particular interest in cases where mental health and learning disabilities are an issue and has often been appointed by the Official Solicitor to represent vulnerable parties. His child protection work includes representing children, guardians, parents and other individuals involved in care proceedings. He has considerable advocacy experience in Magistrates, County and higher courts and has been involved in a number of reported cases. The Legal 500 UK describe Richard as having “considerable legal knowledge“, and praises him for his ability to “manage court proceedings well and engage with children and their parents in a way that endeavours to represent the child’s welfare and enables parties to fully understand what is happening within the proceedings“.

Simon Elliman is a partner at RWK Goodman and heads the firm's Medical Negligence team. Although based in our Bath office, Simon represents clients from all over England and Wales. His expertise is recognised by his membership of the Law Society’s Clinical Negligence Panel, and his membership of the specialist panel of the renowned medical negligence charity Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA). Simon has particular expertise in birth injury and cerebral palsy cases, and complex spinal cases, with a particular specialism in cauda equina cases, and works in partnership with the Cauda Equina Champions Charity. Simon is recognised by independent legal directories Chambers and Legal 500 as a Leader in his field. Chambers describes him as “well regarded for his handling of cerebral palsy cases” and Legal 500 describe him as a “cerebral palsy expert”. Simon is personally recommended by Queen’s Counsel for spinal injury and cauda equina cases, on the basis that “any client would be guaranteed to receive not just an excellent legal service but also sensitive handling” and is described as “a very fine clinical negligence lawyer with vast experience and superb client-handling skills. Tom heads up our Private Client team in Oxford. His appointment with the firm in 2011 has, effectively, brought him home. He originally qualified with Marshall & Galpin, who merged with RWK Goodman in 2008, before heading to Boodle Hatfield and then Manches where he became a partner. Being Oxford born and bred, Tom is very close to the needs and concerns of his clients and their families and has the advantage of working with a network of expert teams based across our regional offices.
